Our founder, Olivia, had suffered challenging menstrual-related symptoms for over a decade when, frustrated by the lack of support, she began hosting meetups for women to share their experiences, drive conversations about menstrual health, and create a space where others felt less alone navigating similar challenges.

These gatherings sparked the birth of a community—a safe, empowering platform to discuss a topic often shrouded in stigma.

As the community grew, it revealed troubling truths about the traditional period care industry. Olivia discovered that the synthetic materials in conventional products were the cause of one of her most persistent challenges: recurring yeast infections.

She soon realized she wasn’t alone. Many women were unknowingly using plastic-based period products that caused irritation, often blaming their bodies rather than the products themselves.

For those in lower-income communities, the situation was even more dire. Limited to the cheapest, lowest-quality options, they were left to endure painful consequences with no alternatives in sight. It became clear that something had to change.

Determined to make a difference, Olivia launched LUÜNA in 2019—a brand rooted in empowering menstrual health, promoting sustainability, and addressing inequities in access to quality period care.
