How Do I Remove My Menstrual Cup When It's Stuck? | LUÜNA
If you feel like your menstrual cup is stuck, don't worry, there's no need to panic. Remember:
- The cup CANNOT disappear inside of you.
- It's common for your cup to "travel" further up after insertion. If you left the stem hanging out and can't feel it anymore, don't worry.
- You can do this, there's no need to rush to the doctor's.
- It might take some time to remove the cup, so make sure you're not in a hurry and able to relax.
- If you don't have time to remove it now, that's okay! There's no risk in leaving your cup in for a bit longer, go on about your day without a worry and come back to it as soon as you can.
How To Remove My Menstrual Cup
- Wash and dry hands. Slippery hands are going to make pulling the cup out more difficult, so make sure to dry them off.
- Find a comfortable position and relax. Some like to sit on the toilet, but squatting down or raising one leg on the toilet lid are also common practices. A suitable position and relaxing yourself will make the vaginal muscles less tense, which will be helpful when removing the menstrual cup.
- Bear down with vaginal muscles. This is key, especially if your cup has "travelled" upwards. The feeling is similar to using your muscles when you're going to the toilet, gradually pushing the cup downwards as you do so.
- Hold the stem and pull gently. Once you can feel the stem of the cup, hold it in place with your fingers.
- Pinch the bottom of the menstrual cup. Reach upwards from the stem and push your fingers together to break the seal.
- Ease the cup out. With your thumb and index pinching the base, gently remove the cup out by tilting it left and right. This will make it easier to remove and help prevent spillage.
- Empty and rinse. You did it! Simply empty the cup into the toilet and rinse before inserting again.

More Tips on Removing the Menstrual Cup:
- Take your time. If you've been trying for what feels like forever and you're still experiencing difficulty removing the cup, the best thing to do is to take a break. Do something that relaxes you and take some time before coming back to it. You'll be surprised how big of a difference that can make.
- Try different positions. For example, if you're at home, getting into the shower can be a good trick! You'll have more space to re-angle yourself and you won't have to worry about spillage.
- Try a different cup size. You might want to consider a bigger cup or smaller cup - there's no one-size-fits-all!
