Help! I'm stuck for International Women's Day this year: Your guide to IWD 2024
3 minute read
If the thought of planning an IWD event that lives up to the expectations of being inspiring, practical and impactful is giving you heart palpitations, you’ve come to the right place. We’ve devised a cheat sheet guide to orchestrating an IWD initiative that not only does justice to this all-important global celebration but ensures sustainable impact throughout the year.
In this guide you’ll find:
- A five-step guide to planning an impactful IWD (for colleagues and the wider community)
- Details about which relevant issues to address and why
- A dual-focused initiative to inspire inclusive action
Every year we hear people confused about the fact there are two IWD themes - and rightly so! To explain this, we refer to UN Women Australia:
It is important to remember that International Women’s Day on 8 March has been marked as Global Day of Observance by the United Nations since 1977… In recent years there has been confusion over the theme and fundraising efforts for IWD, with the emergence of profit-based entities seeking support for initiatives unrelated to philanthropic efforts for women and girls.
This year, #InspireInclusion has emerged as the corporate-facing theme, while the UN has announced that 'Invest in Women: Accelerate Progress.' In this guide, we share ways you can uphold both themes.
